Biography:
Gladys Gigg Ross can be ranked as one of this city’s finest female athletes with track and field and softball her specialties. In the late twenties she won medals as North Bay Collegiate Junior and Intermediate Track and Field Champion. In 1930, she won a bronze relay medal in the Women’s Demonstration Track Events at the British Empire Games in Hamilton. In 1931, she was her schools Senior Track Champion. In 1932, she was second in the Olympic broad jumping trials, and the next year was the Collegiate’s Overall Track and Field Champion. She also played softball with the Senators and CPR and moved into executive work - first in the North and then on a province wide scale, serving as Secretary, Treasurer and President of the Provincial Women’s Softball Union. She also played basketball for number of years. During WW II, she served as a Sports Advisor for the Canadian Armed Forces and did the same job for the CNE from 1950 to 1960. She was an amazing athlete and durable executive.
